The Lions Club of Morpeth

The honour of becoming the President of Morpeth Lions Club means a great deal to me. My late father was a founding member of his Lions club, and I grew up with the varied work of Lions, as well as the enjoyment of being a member of this fantastic organisation. 

The Lions Club of Morpeth is a very friendly and successful club. It has a wonderful  mixture of long standing members, who have established respect and traditions in the community, and the club is known for it’s hard work and dedication to this area. We also have more recent members, with new energy and new ideas, eager to do as much as they to continue Morpeth Lions long standing tradition of help and service. 

I’m hoping my year as President will be a year of valuable service to the community, while also embracing the traditions of fun and fellowship within the club. 

We have plans of new activities and fundraisers this year as well as our traditional ones. 

I am particularly looking forward to working with Santa and his sleigh when we share in the seasonal joy with children and families when the whole of Morpeth area is enveloped in the magic of Christmas.

Lion President Nigel Hedley and Lions Louise Blease and Harry Cone attended the Dementia Roadshow at Manor Walks Cramlington to promote Lions  “Message In a Bottle”  This is a small plastic container which holds medical and personal details which is kept in the fridge. A sticker on the front door alerts emergency services to the presence of the bottle.

Morpeth Lions and other organisations celebrated their fundraising success as a result of the Local Co-op Community Fund initiative.  As a result of this project the funding will be used to support the refurbishment and creation of a sensory garden at Vision Northumberland’s premises in Staithes Lane Morpeth.  Morpeth Lions are very much involved in the refurbishment work.
