Bikers Easter Egg Run April 2024
Morpeth Lions were pleased to donate around 150 Easter eggs, accumulated for them by generous Ashington Asda customers, to the annual Northumbria Easter Egg Run organised by the Infidels Motor Cycle Club and supported by other biker groups and individual riders.
Woodhorn Museum hosted the gathering of around 700 bikers on 30 March, with bikers also donating Easter eggs and paying an entry fee for the privilege of taking part. A total of well over 2000 Easter eggs, including those from Asda, are being distributed by the bikers across the region to children in hospital wards and in palliative care, to schools for those with special needs and disabilities, and to day and urgent care centres.
Meanwhile the event entry fees of well over £2000 have been donated to the Northumbria Blood Bikes to support their volunteer work in delivering essential blood and urgent medical supplies, out of hours and free of charge, between hospitals and other healthcare sites across Northumberland and Durham. The funding of the Blood Bikes service is entirely reliant on donations.
Infidel Chairman Bob Knowles commented ‘This Egg Run has taken place for 28 years. Last year we had 350 riders, and this year the number has doubled to 700. We appreciate donations such as those from Ashington Asda customers, and we are proud to be able to work with other volunteers supporting our community, such as Morpeth Lions and Northumbria Blood Bikes’.
